Location :

La Mata is a district of Torrevieja, in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community. It is bordered to the north by Guardamar del Segura and to the west by the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park.

Benalmádena can be divided into three main parts. It will be: Benalmádena Pueblo, the ancient Andalusian part with characteristic white buildings, the modern and residential Arroyo de la Miel, and a wonderful port. Each of them is unique and worth attention.

1.Benalmádena Pueblo
A restored old town (pueblo) with narrow streets and two squares (Plaza de España and Plaza Andalucia). The first one features the La Niña bronze fountain, which is the symbol of Benalmádena Pueblo

2.Benalmádena Costa, the newest part of the city, located along the coast and directly adjacent to the sea. A significant part of its buildings are tourist facilities (hotels, catering outlets, discos and the beach).

3.Arroyo de la Miel (Honey-flowing stream), originally a separate settlement, located between the other two districts. It is the main residential district and the most commercially active part of the city.

Benalmádena is especially recommended for families with children, because it has a lot of attractions also for the youngest. Most of the most interesting ones can be found below:

THE FAIRYTALE CASTLE OF COLUMBUS
Colomares Castle is not actually a castle, but a monument in honor of Columbus. Nevertheless, it is beautiful and one of the biggest attractions in Benalmádena. It was designed and built by Esteban Marin Martin. Its construction lasted from 1987 to 1994. An interesting fact is that the castle houses the smallest church in the world, entered in the Guinness Book of Records. Its area is only 1.96 m2.

STUPA
A living monument to the enlightened mind, a Buddhist monument to peace and harmony in the world, and a place for learning, reflection and meditation. A very interesting place, also due to the fact that it is the largest Stupa in Europe. Few people also know that it was designed by the Polish architect Wojciech Kossowski. An additional attraction is the beautiful panorama stretching from the hill.

PORT OF BENALMADENNA
Puerto Marina is a good place for a family walk or dinner with wine. You can admire the ships moored here and the interesting architecture. The port is full of numerous bars, shops and cafes. This place has been twice named the most beautiful port in the world. It was also called the ’Venice of Andalusia’ due to its streets, narrow canals and bridges. One of the attractions you can count on here is the aquarium. In Sea Life, you will find over 2,000 species of sea creatures, including turtles, sharks and rays.

TIVOLI WORLD
An ideal way to spend time for both children and adults. Among the fountains and gardens you can enjoy not only over 30 attractions for the whole family, but also a rich gastronomic offer. It’s an old-style theme park, with classic attractions such as Ferris wheels, bumper cars and the Mansion of Terror, as well as new offerings for the more adventurous. The tower, from which you can experience a stunning 60-meter fall, is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular attractions in the park.

TEREFERICO BENALMADENA - QUEUE
Teleférico Benalmádena is a cable car that will give you a bird’s eye view of the entire city. The three-kilometer route leads to the Calamorro peak in the Sierra de Mijas mountain range. After arriving, we can admire a beautiful panorama of the Costa del Sol, nearby Gibraltar, and, if the weather is good, also the African coast. In addition to the wonderful landscapes at the top of Calomorro, there are several other optional attractions, such as: bird of prey shows, Andalusian horse training shows, trekking trails and bicycle trails.

BEACHES
While in this beautiful city, it is definitely worth relaxing on one of Benalmádena’s beaches, and there is a large selection: Arroyo Hondo, Carvajal, Bonita, Bil Bil, La Morera, Arroyo de la Miel, Benalnatura, Fuente de la Salud, La Perla, Las Viborillas , Playa de las Yucas, Torrebermeja, Santa Ana, Tajo de la Soga, Torremuelle, Torrequebrada y Torrevigía are options that are certainly worth using when planning a stay in this place.
